ActionScript 3 won’t be very useful to you without a dedicated development environment. We are going to linger a little on the different available tools to produce ActionScript 3 content. So that there is no confusion, here are the different tools to code in ActionScript 3:

• Flash CS3: allows the development of animation and ActionScript 3 applications. For more information: http://www.adobe.com/en/products/flash/
• Flex builder: this is an authoring environment allowing the development of Rich Internet Applications (RIA). Flex is made up of two languages, MXML to describe the interfaces and ActionScript for the logic. For more information: http://www.adobe.com/fr/products/flex/
• Eclipse (SDK Flex and AIR): SDK Flex and AIR allow you to produce Flex and AIR content for free. These are plugins for the Eclipse development environment.
